Shashi is a child of the mountains born in a quaint little village nestled in the lap of
the Kumoun Himalayas of Uttarakhand. Through Pahari both by birth and nature, climbing
and trekking is second nature to her. She is also a certified yoga instructor.

Guneet has been an avid outdoors person since she was a child. She practically grew up in
the wild and with nature, as her parents took her into the jungles, offroading in their
1942 Willy, on mad impromptu fishing trips all over Uttarakhand. She has been trekking
since she was 6 years old!

Anusha was just seven years old when she first set foot into the wilderness. It was a
trip to Matheran, a quaint hill station 100 km from Mumbai. She started her trekking
career in the Sahyadri ranges in Maharashtra when she was in her teens. she has trekked
the Sahyadri range in almost its entirety.

Our mountain-bound friendship traces its roots back
to 2009. We came from journalistic, banking, and editorial backgrounds, and found our true
calling during volunteer rescue and relief work post the Uttarakhand disaster in 2013.
The pivotal moment for us arrived in October 2013, as we celebrated a triumphant summit of a
fundraising expedition to Mt Rudugheira. This marked the realization of our longstanding
aspiration: turning our passion for climbing into a full-time venture. This realization led to
the birth of Bohemian Adventures, a free spirited child of three passionate women.
Guided by the principle of being "of the mountains, by the mountains, and for the mountains" we
aim to nurture the local economy while providing guests with immersive mountain experiences. Our
commitment to safety is unwavering, reflected in small trek groups, balanced guest-to-guide
ratios, and inclusivity, often featuring all-female guide and staff teams.
Beyond adventure, we endeavour to empower women in mountaineering through internships and
hands-on training. Our vision encompasses stringent safety standards, eco-conscious practices,
and advocating gender equality in a traditionally male-dominated arena.

A few good women !!!
Last weekend was the first time when I ventured out on a trek with my 10 year old
with a lovely bunch of ladies led by Anusha Subramanian from Bohemian
Adventures.
I had read about Anusha and Bohemian Adventures regarding their inclusive treks
where they take people of all age groups and different needs along with them and
give everyone the opportunity to rendezvous with nature. I still was sceptical if we
would be included since my son is autistic and nonverbal.
However all my doubts vanished when we joined the trek with not just Anusha but a
lovely bunch of ladies who were with us throughout the journey. The kind of love,
understanding and acceptance they showered on my son made my day. In a society where
our kids are labelled, at times looked down upon and treated differently, these were
few ladies from different backgrounds who embraced my son and let him be. None of
them ever showed any discomfort or the slightest of doubt regarding having us in the
group, even though they knew if things do not go well for my son we may just have to
abort the whole plan. Throughout the journey they were cheering for my son on every
milestone he achieved. This makes me feel how simple it is to accept everyone as
they are, be kind, be encouraging and how beautiful the experience is when we as
human beings are empathetic towards each other.
End of the day there was a smile 😊 on my son’s face and a sense of accomplishment.
And this I owe it to everyone who was with us on that day. We need more such people
around us.

We did two treks with them - Nov 2021 and April 2022. Both the treks were day treks
with Uttarkashi - Monal Guest House as our base.
1. Excellent planning and paying attention to minor details.
2. It is shocking to see how much weight they can carry - both Guneet and Shashi are
short.
3. They are very familiar with the local geography. If we didn't like option A, then
Option B and C were also provided.
4. The local (cuisine) lunch arranged was outstanding. This was like icing on the
cake.
5. Whenever there were no tea shops around, they would magically whisk tea/coffee
out of their bags. It is such a luxury to sip tea - coffee in the tranquil
surroundings.
6. They always had their eyes on our gaits and the weather. They would gauge that we
are tired but do not want to admit openly. But they would casually stop the group
for a photo or a story and thus we would catch up on our breaths and be ready.
7. Both Shashi and Guneet are excellent story tellers. There is never a dull moment
when we are with them.
Hope to do more treks with them in the coming year.

Just back from a wonderful five-days in the Himalayas with Bohemian Adventure’s
Guneet Puri and Anusha Subramanyam. Trekking the Himalayas whether in India or Nepal
is a bit of a challenge on account of the accommodation and the food. Guneet and
Anusha knew the area, its facilities and the trekking routes well … and made sure we
had the best experience possible.
Guneet and Anusha are great fun as trekking companions. They are filled with little
nuggets of knowledge, trekking anecdotes and even jokes. It was a great trip. I look
forward to trekking with them again.
